China takes steps to ensure network security

The opening ceremony of the famous Winter Olympics in Beijing was held on February 4 in a context of intensive computer security. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has managed to secure its communication, radio and network channels.

During his introduction at the opening ceremony, Gongxin Weibo explained that they are orderly using all the radio frequency units involved towards stronger security. Besides, he pointed out that more than 48,000 sets of radio equipment were in good condition at the start of the sports festival.

Reports indicate that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has curbed security threats from seventeen different networks. Moreover, they have blocked over four thousand IP addresses of malware senders to ensure network security in the host country.

Towards zero vulnerability in China

“Zero interference, zero errors and zero defects” in radio security is the ministry’s mantra throughout the Beijing Winter Olympics. Different teams from different aspects of the ICT sector would have pooled human intelligence and material resources towards the goal.

During the warranty period, the Emergency Command Center of the Ministry of Network Security has set up a security team including China Satcom, China Unicom and China Mobile. Other members of the security team include the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the China Internet Network Information Center, and the Beijing-Hebei Communications Administration. Organizers said the arrangement would ensure security personnel on duty 24/7 for emergency response and other security operations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Weibo announced that security measures have and will continue to strengthen monitoring, research and analysis of data security risks. Meanwhile, the security team will continue to verify and weed out fraudulent internet accounts and phone numbers throughout the warranty period.
