VMware, Amazon Eero Partner to Improve Home WiFi Network Security

VMware and Eero, an Amazon company, are teaming up to improve home Wi-Fi networks and associated security. The move, which involves Secure Access Service Edge (VMware SASE) technology, can enable MSPs and IT administrators to more effectively manage and protect remote networks and home systems for customers.

Amazon acquired Eero in 2019 to enter the home mesh Wi-Fi market versus Google NEST Wi-Fi and other consumer-centric networking gear. But the COVID-19 pandemic has further mixed up the business and consumer worlds, prompting some MSPs to extend enterprise-class systems to customers’ home networks.

The VMware-Eero partnership further reflects this reality. The partnership combines Eero 6 series mesh WiFi systems with VMware SASE Work from Home solutions, and will be delivered by strategic channel partners, the companies said.

VMware SASE for home and remote network security

VMware SASE is a cloud-hosted solution designed to improve the performance and security of user traffic between the Eero home WiFi network and the public cloud, SaaS cloud, and on-premises data centers.

IT teams and MSPs can use VMware SASE to configure networking and security policies and push them to all Eero WiFi remote sites and monitor the actual user experience when accessing cloud applications. The solution compares performance benchmarks between different sites and identifies opportunities for improvement as well as proactive corrective actions, VMware said.

VMware and Amazon have an existing partnership in the enterprise cloud market. Indeed, VMware Cloud on AWS has been a major growth opportunity for both companies, enabling MSPs and customers to scale on-premises VMware workloads to AWS.

VMware separates from Dell technologies

Meanwhile, the tTe Eero partnership is surfacing just as VMware completes its long-planned spin-off of Dell Technologies. While Dell offers business-class network switches, the PC giant mainly resells third-party home networking hardware.
